Welcome!

Hello friends and family,

Some of you have undoubtedly been reading our wedding blog, and in the back of your mind, wondering something akin to the following: "Well, once they finally get married, what will I read online?!"  Fear no longer!

In 2016, in the thirtieth year of our lives, Kate and I are going to pack up our things, lock up our house, board our dog, and get ourselves to Banff, Canada to bike the 2,753 miles of Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (or as far as we can get).  If you are not familiar with the GDMBR, it is a route mapped by the Adventure Cycling Association that roughly follows the Continental Divide from Banff to Antelope Wells, Mexico.  Although the vast majority of the route follows old Forest Service roads and snakes from small Western town to small Western town, it goes through the heart of some of the most pristine and isolated wilderness in North America.

Our hope is to chronicle the planning, preparation, and execution of this adventure on this blog, which should make for some good stories, since neither of use have ever bicycle toured, nor have we owned mountain bikes.  Why we are going to do this we hope will be evident from the stories and anecdotes we write.  But suffice to say, it is not a "vision quest."  It is not (at least right now), the fruit of a quarter life crisis.  Rather, I would characterize this trip as being borne of the desire to live intentionally, to live well, and most of all, to live without regrets.  I'd characterize it as being an opportunity to share our love of the outdoors and of bicycling together.

So join us, won't you?
